Health Tips That Every Solopreneur Needs to Hear

Those who dream about becoming a solopreneur often start off working part-time at it. Working solo, one cannot help but dream of the business growing bigger and bigger.

Everyone hopes that eventually the business brings in a passive income – an income that increases even during sleep.

Most of the time these pipe dreams remain just that: dreams. What starts off as a good idea soon fizzles out because one becomes exhausted and burned out.

The reason for most failures is due to the fact that people don’t look at the whole picture when it comes to starting a business.

They may add extra work hours to their day, which leaves them feeling overworked, overwhelmed and unable to keep up the pace. The stress of the job leaves one vulnerable to a variety of physical problems beyond the ones already mentioned.

The Healthy Entrepreneur

Failing to take care of ‘the whole’ of you is what leads to collapse. Your body needs proper nutrition, rest and relaxation in order to function at its best.

To improve your productivity you simply need to be healthy, happy, energetic and well organized.

Here are a some tips that will help you heal ‘the whole’ and bring your mind and body into greater harmony:

Declutter

Clear your work area of anything that is not needed. Organize your pens, pencils, papers and other office supplies into neat little boxes.

Clear as much clutter from the room as you can, leaving only things that inspire you or make you happy. Once the space is cleaned and organized you will find you have more time to get things done, and will spend less time searching for what you need.

A cluttered space can lead to a cluttered mind.

Work Out

If you don’t work out, now might be a good time to start. Even if you just get out and walk, that is enough exercise to get your heart pumping.

Any workout should be done in the morning so it is not something waiting for you after you have put in a full day of work.

An early morning routine will help you wake up and get ready to face the day ahead.

Eat Healthier

Want more energy throughout the day? Remove sugar from your diet and stop drinking sugary sodas. Use less salt and butter in your cooking and on your plate.

Switch to a diet made up of mostly whole foods and grains. Most importantly, drink at leave five pints of water every day.

Daily Rewards

If you think of your daily breaks as rewards then you will get more work done. It works this way: you tell yourself you can take a break to do ‘whatever’ once you get this current job done. Just limit that ‘whatever’ to one activity per break.

You can check that email, or check Facebook, but you can’t do both during this break. You can go get a cup of coffee, but you can’t go outside to check the mailbox.

Limiting yourself to one small reward will help you return to work quickly.

Schedule ‘You’ Time

As silly as it sounds, you actually need to schedule time for yourself every day. Even if you only give yourself a few minutes at the start of the day, let others know that you will not be available for that time frame.

Doing things you want to do now will save you from the distraction of wanting to get them done later.

Sleep Well

Your body needs at least eight hours of sleep each night for optimum health. Work with your body’s internal clock to set a sleep/wake schedule that works for you.

Wake yourself early enough to finish up all your morning routines. You will feel awake and refreshed by the time you start your work day.

Following these small changes addresses both your physical and mental health in so many positive ways. Soon you will begin to notice that you have more energy and are better able to focus throughout the day.

As a solopreneur, it is up to you to take care of all of you. Doing so will help you reach your goals much faster.
