As a solopreneur you are exposed to a lot of advice. I am going to offer just one tip on how to make your online business successful: work faster.
Speed Matters
If you get paid by the word, the minute, the job, or any other such conditions, you know it is best to get the job done as quick as possible.
If you learn how to work at a faster pace, you can actually find time to take on extra work for added income. This will greatly increase your cash flow.
If a second income is not needed, just increasing your work pace can free up hours in your day. These are hours you can spend with your loved ones.
How does one learn to work faster? The simple answer is to find that ‘flow state’ that gets you to where you need to be.
The Flow State
One is in the flow state when they become 100% involved in the task at hand. Also called the transient hypofrontaility state, the flow state engages only the areas of the brain that are relevant to what you are doing. You are so super-focused on your job that your brain is not wandering around wondering what’s for dinner or if you have any new messages to read online.
How Does One Enter The Flow State?
Chances are, if the job you are about to tackle is not one you are excited about, it is going to take you a while to get into the flow state. This might mean a 30 or 40 minute wait until you hit maximum output.
The least exciting jobs will often bore you so much that you will hit a virtual wall and find it hard to continue. The key to reaching the flow state is to push through this wall and keep working.
Continue working for at least that 30-40 minutes and before you know it you will have pushed through the wall. It is at this point that you will begin to notice how freely your work is now flowing.
You’ve Heard it before…
Another piece of advice that goes along with work faster is to work smart. Start off with the jobs that are most important, or those that are the largest. Once these are done, the smaller, easier jobs will flow even faster. Work smart and work fast to get the first job done.
Getting into the flow state is a skill that takes practice to achieve successfully. Like most new skills, learning will not be easy when you first try; practice makes perfect and with time you will find it easier and easier to reach the ultimate flow state.
As an added bonus, you will get your work done in less time which will allow you to increase your productivity.
Eventually, you will be able to translate this into more leisure time, more time to devote to other activities that enrich your life. If you persist, your new work speed will pay big dividends. But it won’t happen overnight.
Like anything else, this is a learned skill. So stick with it.
